Armstrong delivers quality at the right cost
Armstrong Commercial Laundry Systems believes the two most
important things about the care home’s laundry operation are
quality and cost. ‘Quality’ incorporates issues such
as compliance with legislation and industry guidelines,
reliable advice, responsive after sales support as well as
properly laundered linen. The matter of cost is equally
complex – it is not just the capital cost of the equipment.
It is important to select the right size equipment. If it is
undersized this will reduce operating efficiency and
increase costs. Oversized laundry will be inherently
uneconomic. Armstrong’s Primus range of washer-extractors
starts with the highly popular PW5, the 5 kg model, and
continues with both free standing and floor secured models
at 7, 10, 16 and 22 kg models plus several larger ones. For
each size there is a compatible tumble dryer from the
world-leading Huebsch range plus a comprehensive portfolio
of finishing equipment. This means that the most economic
solution can be supplied to any care home laundry.
In some laundries it might pay to have two small washers
rather than one large one to ensure that a machine never
operates at less than full capacity. On the other hand, if
space is a limiting consideration, Armstrong’s Amazon
Laundry Centre is likely to be the answer. This comprises a
6.5 kg Schulthess washer-extractor with a tumble dryer
stacked above it, delivering both functions in the foot
print of one.
All Armstrong equipment has been the subject of continuous
product development programmes targeting energy and water
consumption. In washer-extractors, innovations such as
inverter drives and programmable microprocessor controls
have contributed to substantial savings. Huebsch tumble
dryers are now so much more energy efficient that it can pay
to replace old dryers when they are still functioning.
Armstrong offers a full range of finance options including
the increasingly popular fixed price rental schemes. Here in
particular the buyer should beware. There are many such
schemes on the market and the cost differences from one to
another can be remarkable – it really does pay to shop
around if this type of finance is your preferred option.
In 2006 Bryony House in Selly Oak underwent a major
refurbishment – all rooms en suite, all electrics renewed, a
new kitchen and a new laundry. When one supplier did not
live up to expectations, manager Christine Hilton turned to
Armstrong Commercial Laundry Systems. The outcome is a
laundry comprising two 10 kg Primus FS 10 washer extractors
and two 30 lb Huebsch tumble dryers. The laundry handles
everything for the 35 room home including flatwork, towels,
curtains, etc as well as residents’ personal clothing.
‘I was not surprised that we got exactly what we needed bang
on time from Armstrong because I had dealt with them before’
says Christine Hilton. ‘The one time we needed support they
were on site in no time. What did come as a pleasant
surprise though was the cost. We are saving literally
thousands of pounds a year.’
