Miele products have a worldwide reputation for quality and
an unrivalled record for reliability combined with long
service life. These factors are particularly important in
the commercial nursing and care sector and to withstand the
daily rigours of demanding use the Miele Professional range
of products are all engineered to a high standard.
As each customer’s requirement can vary it’s important to
identify this individual need and all Miele Professional
Partners have many years experience in this area. They can
provide a comprehensive proposal from application assessment
through to installation; packages can be tailored to include
lease or rental with built-in service contracts for precise
cost management control. The network of partnership dealers
provides national coverage with a supporting service
organisation extending to 200 engineers.
The Miele Professional range of washing machines and tumble
dryers offers a wide choice of models in the capacity range
5.5kg to 32kg. All washer extractors are energy efficient
and feature sluice and thermal disinfection programmes which
meet with Department of Health Guideline HSG(95)18 and also
conform to The Care Standard Act 2000. For applications
requiring a high standard of flatwork finish there is a
choice of rotary ironers.
Miele’s renowned entry level models, the 5.5kg and 6.5kg
Little Giant models set the benchmark for compact washer
extractors. These two models offer a choice of simple to use
Profi L control systems, both have an easy to read clear
text display and the Plus version is fitted with four
control keys which enables the most frequently used
programmes to be locked-in for simple and fast access. The
6.5kg PW6065 features two thermal disinfection programmes
which have been specially developed and tested to ensure
that the load is disinfected in accordance with current
standards; both incorporate a sluice cycle.
The Department of Health’s preferred disinfection method is
by the application of heat but not all fabrics can withstand
the high temperatures necessary without fibre damage. To
overcome this Miele has worked with specialist companies in
order to develop a chemical which can be easily dispensed in
a controlled way and which effectively sanitises the load at
low temperature. The chemical is developed from natural
compounds and is safe to handle, and has been subjected to
tests in an independent laboratory to underline its
effectiveness. The liquid is dispensed in the final rinse
automatically through an external dosing pump that is
activated by the control system of the washing machine. The
pump is calibrated to ensure that the correct volume is
dispensed and features built-in mechanisms to safeguard
against error. For example, if the liquid container requires
replacing or if the feed tube becomes damaged then the pump
will detect this and cause the washing machine to fault.
Other models in the Miele range offer other choices of
operating system, the 7.5kg W6073 is well suited to medium
size homes and is fitted with a Multitronic control which
has either 13 or 23 fixed programmes. Suitable for use in
larger establishments, the 10kg to 32kg capacity range is
fitted with the Profi M control which offers a high degree
of functionality. With a memory capacity of up to 199
programmes, Profi M allows the operator to lock-in the most
frequently used programmes to the 6 fast access keys on the
facia for practical simplicity.
Profi M is also fitted with a card reader to accept Miele’s
memory chip card. This facilitates the easy addition of
bespoke wash programmes or the downloading of simple
software updates, in effective ‘future proofing’ the
machine. Miele invests heavily in continuous product
improvement and if software improvements are developed
leading to, for example, lower operational costs, then these
improvements can easily be passed on to benefit the end-user
via a qualified engineer, who can quickly and conveniently
download this data to the machine. Similarly, if legislation
enforces changes to the parameters for thermal disinfection
the Profi M control system can easily be updated.
The benefits of Miele’s product development programme can be
seen in the innovative honeycomb drum that is fitted to all
washing machines and most tumble dryer models. A Miele
patent, the drum wall has a hexagonal profiled design that
on washing machines has a convex cross section which means
that during spinning the fabrics ‘glide’ on a thin film of
water. This protects the fibres and extends the life of the
garment, it also reduces the effect of friction allowing
higher spin speeds which of course leads to reduced drying
times. On driers the section of the profile is concave
providing a cushion of hot air beneath the clothing,
protecting fibres and increasing drying efficiency.
Miele tumble dryers also embody many other energy saving
benefits. All feature reverse action saving 15% energy costs
when compared with single rotation, and all models are
fitted with moisture sensing controls. Residual moisture is
electronically monitored and the programme finishes
automatically when the pre-set degree of dryness is reached.
This eliminates operator guesswork with the result that
energy consumption is also reduced. The ability to select a
programme with pre-set moisture levels is especially useful
if a rotary ironer is to be used for finishing.
For flatwork finishing Miele has a wide range of ironers
with a choice of roller lengths and throughput to match a
wide range of applications. Most models feature return feed
operation allowing space effective installation and in most
cases use by a single operator.
Miele has recently introduced new, three-model series of
flatwork ironers, faster and more powerful than previous
generation machines, and with lower energy consumption. The
new ironers – PM 1318, PM 1418 and PM 1421 – all feature a
new high-performance, high-capacity ironer bed.
For crockery washing Miele Professional offer dishwashers
catering for up to 250 covers. For healthcare applications
the range includes a thermal disinfection model that
provides a high standard of infection control. The G7859TD
uses freshwater for optimum cleanliness and features
selectable wash/rinse temperatures and holding times, this
means surface (and not just water) temperatures are elevated
to ensure disinfection is achieved.
