NCA hits out over problems with CRB checks
on potential employees |
The NCA today raised new concerns over claims that British
criminals may have been cleared to work with vulnerable
people in the UK after committing serious crimes abroad.
NCA Chief Executive Sheila Scott has questioned the value
for money of the Criminal Records Bureau after details of
over 27,000 cases were left in files at the home office and
not inputted onto the Police National Computer.
The CRB receives all of its information from the Police
National Computer and NCA members collectively spend around
£22,000 every month for checks to be carried out on
potential employees.
“Ms. Scott said: “How are we meant to protect people in this
country if basic procedures are not carried out? What
confidence can we have that these checks are accurate? If
names of criminals are left off the database, how can we
ensure that we are employing people with no criminal
record?”
The NCA is seeking reassurance for its 2000 members who
spend over £250,000 each year on the CRB.
