Launched in January 2007, Ridouts is a UK national practice
offering specialised legal advice to providers of care.
Based in Marylebone, our mission is simple: to provide a
centre of legal excellence at the heart of London’s centre
for medical excellence. We work with a wide range of
clients, all of whom receive incomparably diligent levels of
service regardless of their size or circumstances
Honesty, integrity and capability are our cornerstones. And,
in a field dominated by generalists and big-business, you'll
find dealing with us is as refreshingly transparent as it is
encouragingly personable.
Our founder Paul Ridout is one of the UK’s most respected
Health and Social Care lawyers, having spent a decade
spearheading DLA Piper's Healthcare Practice. His 35 year
career has seen him involved in major groundbreaking issues
in the regulation of Health and Social Care and he has
represented the majority of leading care home operators, as
well as hundreds of smaller operations.
Ridouts operates on a cheaper cost base and with less of the
associated bureaucracy than its larger and less progressive
competitors. This means that we're able to respond swiftly
and effectively in the event of crisis management, whilst
offering a uniquely personable service.
The range of work that Ridouts has done in its short life as
a new player in health and social care law illustrates some
of areas where robust legal advice is a necessary part of
the care business. Examples include:
• Representing the directors of a major company in a police
investigation into serious offences under the Mental Health
Act.
• Starting judicial review proceedings against a statutory
regulator concerning the cancellation of an establishment’s
registration.
• Forcing the regulator to expedite an application to vary
conditions on a registration.
• Advising on continuing care entitlement in a dispute with
a PCT.
• Advising on contract negotiations for various clients with
their commissioners and suppliers.
• Challenging inspection reports that mischaracterise
services and negotiating amendments arising.
• Advising on corporate risks regarding infection control
and impaired service provision.
• Representations against Notices of Proposal.
• Advising on registration issues for independent and
voluntary sector providers.
• Challenging funding decisions involving Supporting People.
